A resident of Georgia, the trucker did not slow for traffic ahead and swerved at the last minute, trying to avoid a crash, according to authorities. Instead, he smashed into the back of the comedian’s chauffeured limo bus, killing one person.

Another passenger, formerly of Saturday Night Live, was in critical condition after the accident. He had to have surgery for a broken leg and suffered a broken nose and several broken ribs. Doctors believe he will be hospitalized for several weeks.

The president of the trucker’s company said in a statement that his company “will take full responsibility” if it is determined their truck was the cause.
